5 Events You Can’t Miss at Lake Gaston this Year

There are so many exciting things to do at Lake Gaston. Especially in the summer, when you can hit the lake and spend the day boating, fishing, swimming or just hanging out. However, that’s not all there is to do at Lake Gaston. There are a ton of awesome events, gatherings, and dinners throughout the year, but these are the top 5 you don’t want to miss.

1. Battle of the Barbecue

It wouldn’t be North Carolina without barbecue. This barbecue cook-off has been going on for more than two decades. Not only do you get to sample barbecue from a multitude of cookers, you’ll get to participate in scoring each sample and help to decide who has the ultimate barbecue.

2. The Crossing Fund Raising Event

This is an awesome event for all ages! On the second Saturday in August, O’SAIL (The two children in a yellow kayakOrganization to Support the Arts, Infrastructure, and Learning on Lake Gaston) challenges you to swim, kayak, canoe, raft, or invent your own means of transportation to cross a 1 mile open water stretch of Lake Gaston for charity. And if you don’t fancy swimming, you can always cross on foot via Eaton’s Ferry Bridge. An excellent way to spend the day.

3. Fall of the Arts

Last year’s event was a huge success, and this year’s is sure to be even better. The Fall of the Arts showcases both local artists and those from a little further away. Spend a relaxed evening meeting the artists, complete with complimentary refreshments, music, and hors d’oeuvres. Art will be on display and for sale. Feel free to contact me for more information about this event.

4. Lake Clean Up Day

Every year the Lake Gaston Association hosts a Lake Clean Up Day. This is a great opportunity to volunteer with your community and make sure the lake is beautiful and clean, ready for the summer.

5. Lake Gaston Lion’s Club Seafood Festival
